Diagnostic Evaluation
The initial hour for all new patients is a diagnostic evaluation that aims to clarify the underlying physical and psychological disturbance/s that is the cause of the presenting symptom/s.
The conclusion of this initial meeting consists of the formulation of an initial plan of treatment as well as recommendations for any further evaluation.
Medication Treatment
The judicious and focused use of medications is extremely helpful in both managing symptoms as well as, at times, correcting underlying chemical disruptions that give rise to various mental conditions.
Effective medication management is always based upon an accurate and thorough diagnosis.
Psychotherapy
Many individuals will benefit from the space and time to speak their inner experiences and truths freely without hindrance or judgment.
Therapy meetings may either be 30 or 45 minutes in length, as frequent as two or three times a week, or as infrequent as once a month.
Psychoanalysis
The ‘original’ psychotherapy, as formulated by Sigmund Freud in Vienna and later by Jacques Lacan in Paris; psychoanalysis occurs two to four times per week, with the patient lying on the analytic couch. This treatment is offered when the clinical demands and the desire of the patient call for a radical confrontation with one’s inner thoughts and experiences, creating a space to speak of things never before spoken about.
